Erics Eulogy

Eric was born in Grimsby, his parents Emma & Percy were owners of a fish and chip shop, and were delighted with their only child. He grew up helping them in the shop, and would go to the fish market with them at an early age, pushing the cart back to the shop. I expect it was from this that he got a taste for the sea. During the war he joined the Royal Navy, this was the time he met his first wife Frances when he was on leave in Wales, during this marriage a son was born Phil who he was proud of (whom he called Rusty) because of his bright red hair, but this marriage was to fail. After the war he went to work for Hoover as a service engineer, but Eric had itchy feet so this job didn’t last very long. Being a keen photographer he tried other options, and got a job as a photo finish operator at the greyhound stadiums, which took him all over the country. After a while he was asked by the company to work full time, shortly after Phil then joined the company at the age of 15. Then Eric was asked to take on the drug detection side of the business, so he went to the forensic department at Glasgow university, after completing the course they bought a old ex army ambulance and equipped it out as a mobile laboratory, Eric and Phil went all over the UK from Cornwall to Scotland testing greyhounds for drugs, and had many adventures. This was the time Eric splashed out on a boat (cabin Cruiser) and would be away fro some time then coming home worse for ware, not knowing were he had been (or not wanting to tell us). In the 70’s he met Pat who became his second wife, so he sold his boat and started a life of cursing. Eric retired at 75 and Phil and Sylvia took over the business. So this was the time for him to buy another boat, a 35 foot canal boat, which he spent most of his days on. Unfortunately after 22 years of marriage Pat passed away at the age of 54 and was greatly missed. Not long after he joined Phil and Sylvia in Spain, although being 80 years young and very active who enjoyed making new friends, and this is when he met Val and after a short time they married, they recently went on a cruise which was to be his last although they were together for only a few years they had happy times. Eric will be greatly missed by all his family and friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
